Persephone has seen the dead, married their king, Hades, and eaten seeds of his pomegranate. Her mother, the harvest goddess Demeter— overwhelmed by grief at the abduction of her daughter and the cruelty of Persephone's marriage confines, refuses to let new crops grow until her daughter returns. Zeus intervenes, and fighting norms regulated by the mythological past, decides that the marriage needs to stand, however, Persephone can leave the underworld for nearly half of each year, returning to her mother. Persephone, for all of the interpersonal fighting and fears inflicted upon her, cultivates a safer paradigm of self-awareness and protection, measuring responses to include acknowledging things of harshness in the sunlit above-ground, and becoming a beacon of warmth inside the underworld. Her journey -- finding a path to sustenance and self-actualization -- continues beyond any myth.
For adults in the midst of journeys rife with scary regulations, uncaring rules, lack of choices & private nightmares, we created a beer to support targets of interpersonal/interrelational violence and aggression. A portion of the proceeds from this beer go to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).
