The Inaugural Burns Family Artisan Ales, Books, and Potato Peel Society Meeting

Thursday, January 19th 2023 at 7pm

Welcome to a new, slightly different, book club! We’re taking a slightly different approach to the traditional book club here at Burns, and we hope you join us on this literary journey! Entry to each month’s meeting is accomplished by arriving at the brewery and purchasing a beer, then joining the group for a discussion.

Where we differ from most book clubs, is there is no assigned reading. We won’t be picking out a book for everyone to read before the next meeting and then discussing it. Rather, we will be discussing books in general, in specific, on the whole. Topics include: Genre Debates, What is a Brain Candy Book (and why do you need one), Favorite Place to Find Books, and the traditional Favorites; Book, Author, Series.

For our first meeting, we will be Introducing the Society, creating a list of upcoming discussion topics, and getting to know one another. The club is open to anyone 21 and up. We will determine the topic for the next meeting at the end of the current one.

Items of note:

-        The Brewery Bookshelf will have space devoted to a club library. Looking for a specific book? Want to pass on a couple of novels to another person? This is the place for you. Feel free to donate books or leave a copy of that novel someone asked for. Please do not leave anything you wish returned, we cannot guarantee the book won’t get picked up by a customer looking for a good read! We will facilitate book exchanges between readers as best we can, but suggest you work out the details between yourselves.

-        Topic ideas can/will be written down and added to the fishbowl on the Bookshelf. If you have an idea when hanging out enjoying a beer, or don’t want to speak up during a meeting, write it down and add it to the bowl! Unless a specific idea is requested for a meeting, we can draw ideas from the bowl for the next meeting.

-        Verbal participation is not required, you are more than welcome to enjoy your beer and gather ideas for new reading material from the conversations around you. However, we would love to hear your input!

-        Be respectful of one another and the space. This is a book club for everyone. Not all of us have the same taste. Please listen with an open mind. Who knows, a new genre or author may be brought to your attention! Our goal is to enjoy lively debate and hopefully help you gather more reading ideas.
